Kuta Beach Bali: Monday February 5th 2007

kuta beach baliAfter arriving in Tuban this morning during the Superbowl halftime show, I went for a quick walk on Kuta Beach to see what was going on. Generally there is no wind in the mornings, and that added to the cool temperatures and shade, provided by the nearby trees, made Kuta Beach seem tranquil. The lifeguards were congregating around their tower, dressed in eye-catching yellow and red. Later a small convoy escorted a motorboat on a trailer down Jl. Kartika Plaza, all honking and flashing lights.

This morning the tide was out, which accounted for the lack of surfers. Down at this bottom corner of Kuta Beach, locals enjoy bubur ayam (chicken porridge) at a stall slightly back from the beach. Beside that is a stall selling fruit salad, consisting of banana, melon, orange, mango and other fruits. For people staying in the Kuta area, early mornings are great for a run or walk on the beach. Any surf shop, will give you a copy of the tide chart, so you can make sure the beach is flat as possible, by aiming for low tide.
