Renting a Surf Board in Bali
Renting a surfboard in Bali isn’t a hard thing to do. You can pretty find a surfboard for rent anywhere there is a coastline and some waves. There more popular surfing destination will be able to offer a better variety of boards and may also offer better deals depending on who you rent your board from.
Your best best for renting a good surfboard in Bali is to try and get one from a reputable surf school or surf shop. These locations will usually have the best boards in the best conditions. These types of places will usually cut you a deal if you want to rent a board for several days or weeks.
If you are looking to rent a board for the duration of your stay, talk to the owner of the surf shop or surf school to see if they will allow you to swap out the board as your skills increase or as the conditions changes. As you learn to surf, you will want a longer board that is easy to use, but once you get some waves under your belt, you might feel like switching to a shorter board.
When renting a board for an extended period of time, be sure to discuss details with the owner about what the cost for repairs are and what will happen should the board break or be stolen. If you don’t talk about this before hand, the owner has the ability to pull some ridiculous number out of his head on what to charge you.

Avoid renting surfboards from locals on the beach. There is a number of reason for doing this. One is that they will most likely try to take advantage of you and over charge you simply because they think they can. The other reason is that these boards are already in bad shape. Many of them have probably been broken in the past and are just waiting to break again. When this happens, they like to try and charge you $300 dollars for breaking their boards.
No mater where you rent from, give the surfboard a good look over, as if you were walking over a rental car for scratches and dents. If you fail to point out any dents and dings in the boards, the owners may try to charge you for the damages even if they knew they were already there.
