Street name doubles in Kuta Bali
Bali has a funny way of naming and numbering streets. The numbering system is basically, ‘put any number on your shop’. I’ve been on streets in Denpasar where there were snippets of a system, but that faded into randomness very quick.
Regarding the naming of streets, they usually name a local name, Jl. Drupadi, Gang Plawa, Jl. Petitenget, etc. Sometimes the name changes into another Indonesian name for whatever reason and the street is known by both names. Sometimes this is compounded by the street being known by a famous restaurant or hotel (Jl. Oberoi, Jl. Rum Jungle, Jl. Gado Gado).
Don’t worry, most taxi drivers know all the terms and hotel staff are familiar with the major streets. Here is a list of streets with double names.
Jl. Oberoi / Laksmana
Jl. Dhyana Pura / Gado Gado / Abimanyu
Jl. Double Six / Arjuna
Jl. Pura Bagus Taruna / Jl. Rum Jungle / Jl. Werkudara
Jl. Padma / Yudistra
Jl. Poppies Lane II / Jl. Batu Bolong
Jl. Pantai Kuta / Jl. Pantai Banjar Pande Mas
Jl. Kartika Plaza / Jl. Dewi Sartika
Jl. Segara / Jenggala
Jl. Satria / Jl. Kediri
Confused? Don’t worry about it, call a Bluebird.
