Papa’s Cafe: Kuta Bali
Ika wanted to go to Papa’s Cafe in Kuta tonight, so we quickly got ready and motorbiked down to Jl. Pantai Kuta. Papa’s Cafe is an Italian restaurant located at the top of Jl. Pantai Kuta in front of Alam Kul Kul hotel. A while ago I chose Papa’s as one of my 3 best restaurants in Kuta and I think that is still relevant.
We showed up around 7.30pm and the place was about 40% full. The parking staff stood to attention, as did the grill staff, the wine staff and the bar staff. Everyone was extremely attentive this evening.
Looking at Papa’s menu they have some great options, ranging from salad, to pizza, pasta, Indonesian etc. Papa’s is not a budget dining place, you will pay 70,000rp for the average main course. I was looking through the menu and saw a glass of house wine was 52,000rp, oh well, better settle for a small beer. Just then the waitress suggested the ‘seafood bbq’ , which included all you can eat salad and a free glass of wine, for 85,000rp. Halalluyah!. In the back of my mind I’m thinking, okay, there’s no rice or potatoes, they give you a glass of wine, so obviously the seafood will be skimpy and the rest will be salad. How wrong I was! After 25 minutes up comes this huge oval plate with 3 jumbo prawn, a slice of halibut or something, 2 large pieces of squid, a whole lobster tail and a whole fish (about 10 inches long with the head). Trotting over to the salad bar I loaded up with tomato, cucumber, lettuce (still thinking about SuperSize Me), feta cheese, potato salad and a mound of black olives. Ika ordered the same thing, so I scored 2 glasses of house wine!
Alright the wine was nasty, but to get it at all was a score. The food was delicious, Ika loving the lobster and feeding some to Jevon. Ika was funny as she went to the salad bar and returned with a plate of feta cheese, “This potato salad, not nice, too salty.” she said. We ordered some garlic bread, a mixed juice and a water as well as the food. I grabbed some fruit from the salad bar too at the end, which was included. Our bill was 270,000rp, which wasn’t bad when you consider Jimbaran Bay would be the same price, but without the wine.
The seafood bbq is on Fri, Sat, Sun between 6pm-8pm. I reckon its a winner.
