Interview with artist Ketut Arsana in Lodtunduh Bali
While sitting at the babi guling stand at the crossroads at Lodtunduh, I was joined by a Balinese fellow in his 30’s named Ketut Arsana. We chatted and Ketut told me he was married to one of the ladies at the stand and had a 12 year old kid. These people start early. Ketut is an artist and a dancer, with a studio, Ayong located in Batuan. That area is rich for artists as Ketut explained ‘whatever style of art you want, in Batuan there are too many artists.”
Batuan is actually a long strip of galleries, located on the northern edge of Sukawati (famous Sukawati market). If you visit Batuan there are a couple of good galleries, I Wayan Bendi Gallery and Dewa Putu Toris Gallery.
Ketut asked where I live and how much my rent was. I told him Seminyak and strongly encouraged me to lease land from his parents and build and nice place with a swimming pool, “better for you, I think.” he said. So enthusiastic about the idea, he even went over the details 4-5 times.
Wanting to learn more about about his art, I did a short interview. Here is what Ketut had to say. He was cool and bought me my lime soda!
