Meeting Ollie & Teri at Fuel in Kuta Bali
Tuesday night I met with Ollie & Teri at Fuel in Kuta Bali. Fuel is a lounge bar, with a dance floor area and a restaurant upstairs. Actually the restaurant had won awards, but is now closed due to the decline in the Australian market right now. Kuta and Legian particularly is feeling the heat because those areas were popular with Aussies.
Ollie & I sipped Bintangs while Teri has a Cosmopolitan. She went out onto the street and came back with a salad, which was no problem. At 9pm the place was empty, but by 11pm its had filled up with foreign and domestic guests. We went upstairs to use their free pool table, which is a local style table using the tiny balls. During our time upstairs we realized the ghostly dark void next door was the Sari Club. Ollie opened the window and wanted to video tape it. Weird viewing the site at night from high up, really highlights the emptiness.
As we stepped out of Fuel around 11.30pm it was raining. Teri and Ollie caught a cab while I scooted up the street to my motorbike and tried to quickly get into my poncho without getting soaked. Last night I used a spare helmet we have that has a visor, something I’m not used to. It is very nice to have a visor during a heavy storm. Usually I catch the rain in the face when I’m riding and the interior will start to absorb water. Last night I felt like I was in my own little submarine.
