Meeting Moko & Tewaa from New Zealand
Late this afternoon as the sun was going down I walked past Taman Sari restaurant on Poppies II in Kuta. Someone yelled out to me and it was surf guru, Palu. Palu teaches surfing, as well as manufacturing boards, including learner boards and decorative boards. Stepping in for a beer, I immediately noticed one gentleman who had rather obvious tattoos.
Moko and his son Tewaa are Maori’s from New Zealand. Moko has worked for the UN in Timor and Aceh, and both of them are the nicest people, you’d ever meet! They have just finished a bit of surfing in Mentawai, and are surfing on the Bukit here. I told Moko I’d freak if I saw him coming over my wall at midnight. Looks can be deceiving.
Moko’s tattoos are a part of traditional Maori culture.
