Cat & Fiddle with Laura in Sanur Bali
Tuesday night is Irish music night at The Cat & Fiddle pub in Sanur. Riding down to Jl. Padma I parked outside Laura’s hotel and she was already waiting with her driver Roy. As it worked out there were 6 of us including Laura’s auntie Vi and mother Diane, plus husband Mickey. The small minibus actually plenty of room and in 25 minutes we were Sanur. To get to the Cat & Fiddle we had to take the Bypass, hooking a scary U-turn in Sanur and taking Jl. Danau Poso, to an intersection. The pub is on Jl. Cemera.
My friend Mike Hillis was waiting for us with his own group of people. Luckily our table was right in front of the bar and the music. Ordering dinner we all had a chuckle at the English / Irish dishes. Mickey had a cottage pie and I went for the Irish bangers & mash. The music started just after 8.30 consisting of British Consul Mark Wilson on accordian and his brother Phil on guitar. They belted out a selection of English and Irish folk tunes which always seem to resonate with immigrants to Australia. Its funny, because everyone at our table was an Australian citizen, but all came from the England and N. Ireland. Laura told me her version of ‘you can take the girl out of the bar’ which basically was that you’ll always be a Belfast girl.
All in all it was a good craic and we left around 11pm, the music still going.
