Warung Enak: Ubud Bali
Zooming up to Ubud this morning in search of something new, I decided to treat myself and my readers to Warung Enak. Located about 100 meters after the bottom end of Jl. Hanuman, Warung Enak (enak means ‘delicious’) serves Indonesian and Balinese food. When I arrived at midday, the place only had 2 other guests. I choose the upstairs area to sit and it had a view of rice fields. A year or so ago the view would of been better, the bungalows now under construction probably weren’t there, but that’s Bali for you.
My drink was a water and for lunch I choose Sate Padang/ Sumatra (Ox tongue marinated in cumin, nutmeg, clove, coriander, tumeric and pepper (42,000rp). I don’t think I’ve had tongue before, but the ingredients sounded too good to miss. On arrival the dish looked attractive and the tongue had a chewy / gamey, texture and taste. The sauce was mild and enjoyable. I gobbled the accompanying cabe (chili) for extra heat. Warung Enak has an extensive menu, starting with a large wine and cocktail list.
The menu is divided into: Snack including Lumpia / Semarang (26,000rp), Soup including Rawon / E. Java (28,000rp), Small Plates including Tum Ayam /Bali (25,000rp), Large Plates including Kalio cumi cumi / Sumatra (58,000rp), Sate including sate Bali / Bali (42,000rp), Stir Fry Noddles including Soun / Java (45,000rp), Fried Rice including Nasi Goreng Kambing / Batavia (48,000rp), Sweet including Cendol / C. Java (15,000rp).
There is also a vegetarian and kids menu. One item that stands out for me is the Rijtstaffel (rice table). They serve 18 dishes for 150,000rp, which includes starters, soup, main courses and desserts. Got to try that sometime.
