Satay kambing in NE Bali
Coming back from the waterfall Ika and I were looking for somewhere to eat other than Poinciana. They serve good food but we wanted to stretch ourselves and we both enjoy local food. In rural Bali you can find many small drink shops that also sell tipat sayur, a Balinese snack made of lontong (rolled rice, that is cut into chunks), peanut sauce, chili and beans sprouts.
I’ve had tipat sayur a few times and apart from the scorching hot chili, I am not super keen on it, when there are other options. Ika and I drove to Tejakula a few kilometers north of Poinciana, asking locals for directions to a warung. We visited 2 that at 2pm had not opened for business yet. The only place along the coast was a satay kambing (satay goat) shack. We stopped, each ordered 10 sticks, plus the rolled rice, myself also having a small goat soup. Out here they love chucking in pieces of meat that come from various parts of the animal. The shop was closed with chewy bits that I sampled but mostly left.
Out bill was 19,000rp which was okay I suppose. The price of satay varies spending on what kind of meat you get. Chicken (ayam) is the cheapest at 3,500, 4,000rp for 10 sticks. Of course I get charged more unless I argue. Kambing is usually double the coast of ayam. Turtle and rabbit satay are 5,000rp for 10 sticks.
Anyway the small snack was okay to get me through to dinner, and back at Poinciana I celebrated our waterfall hike with a couple of arak madu’s.
