Monkey Here Monkey There: North Bali
Just north of Danau Bratan about five kilometres on the road to Singaraja there is a lookout point where the valley below and one of the northern lakes, Danau Buyan can be viewed.
The coolness of the mountain region affords many experiences and none better than the lookout. It is not hard to miss. Driving along, the road veered to the left and suddenly there was a troop of monkeys playing on the road.
Naturally, when I parked the car, I was inundated with banana vendors offering the delicacies for the monkey's pleasure. A bit of bargaining later and I found myself feeding these simians. I was surprised at their gentleness in taking the fruit from my hand.
Whilst the simians were feasting, I took the opportunity to take in the view of Danau Buyan and surrounding area.
If you are ever up this way then this stop is worth it. Try to get some bananas from the markets at Danau Bratan and save yourself the hassle of bargaining if that’s not your forte.
