Lawrence Failed to Heed Warning: Bali
Convicted drug smuggler Renae Lawrence says her former lover had warned her about getting involved with the ring leader of the Bali Nine according to am article in the Courier Mail.
In an interview with New Idea magazine Lawrence spoke for the first time about her 10 year relationship with divorced mother of three Tracie Samson and her embarrassment when Balinese police thought she was a man and about getting involved with the dealings of Andrew Chan.
Lawrence, who is currently serving a 20 year sentence in Kerobokan jail over her involvement in the conspiracy to smuggle 8.3kg of heroin from Bali to Australia, must have found it quite embarassing when the Indonesian police strip searched her. Lawrence spoke of her embarrassment when Balinese police thought she was a man as they arrested her. Thankfully they had all had Biology lessons and a female police person was brought into the situation.
Lawrence went on to say in the interview that she became depressed in custody and made several attempts on her life. Understandable considering the deplorable consitions in Indonesian jails. Lawrence said that she had formed close friendships with others inside the jail including fellow convicted Australian drug trafficker Schapelle Corby.
Lawrence was one of several Bali nine who had their sentences reduced from life to 20 years on appeal in April this year. Most of you, like myself, have no sympathy for anyone who gets caught drug smuggling as the goods they are seeking to take into another country kill people and that tantamounts to involuntary manslaughter in my books.
The case against Schapelle Corby is suss and of course there are varying oinions on this and many comments both for and against I have seen on this site in previous articles. Whatever the case, the facts are that you should never get involved with or be a party to any kind of drugs or drug taking when in any foreign country.
