GPS and my trip in Tabanan Bali
Attaching the GPS unit to my mirror was a genius idea today. I didn’t have a base map to work off of, so my GPS drew a spiders track, detailing my trail. I set the unit to ‘compass’ and was able to steer a route working off of my mental map. When it was time to come home I set the ‘Go To’ to the location of my house and the pointer magically knew where it was.
Arriving home in mid afternoon and wanting the names of the villages I passed through, I simply looked at the Track Log and compared the shape to my Periplus map. Its amazing how accurate the GPS is and it accounted for all the turns I made. Marking a couple of places such as the swimming hole, I could spot the villages. GPS’s are waterproof too, so the rainy weather won’t stop you using one.
