Beach volleyball in Kuta Bali
What could be better than a group of lovely ladies knocking a volleyball around on the beach? Free beer on the beach? Option #2 doesn’t happen very often, but option #1 has, with the LA Menthol Asia Beach Volleyball Tournament, taking place right now at Kuta Halfway.
All along Jl. Pantai Kuta are the huge white flags advertising the event, and 2 courts are set up close to the trees. I showed up to check out the play, and watched a duo from Thailand beat a pair from Malaysia. Along both sides of the court were bleachers and the whole thing was free. Teams entering include Indonesia
The ladies I watched could definitely all play, with players from all teams digging, setting and spiking. The whole time the games were going on, music was playing in the background, working that sex appeal.
In all 8 countries will compete in the $20,000 competition, including The eight countries are China (two men’s teams and one women’s team), Thailand (one men’s team and one’s women’s team), Malaysia (two men’s teams and one women’s team), Australia (one men’s team), New Zealand (one men’s team), Vietnam (two men’s teams), the Philippines (one men’s team) and host Indonesia (two men’s teams and two women’s teams).
Balinese locals crowded around to watch the matches, and I talked to one local about the event. Later that evening huge crowds showed up, and parking along Jl. Pantai Kuta was jam packed. I’d say the event is a success so far. The LA Menthol Asia Beach Volleyball Tournament, finishes on Sunday, May 7th.
