Balinese temple south of Ubud-part II
Admiring the unique sculptors (leopard & pig, tree gargolyle and female temple guardians) that were outside the temple, I decided to check inside. Once again donning my sarong and sash, I entered through the jaba (outer courtyard), which had a candi bentar (split gate), guarded on each side by 2 standing female gargoyles, each clutching one of their breasts. The side entrance also had interesting guardians, namely a ferocious looking pig and a leopard.
The smart little jeroan (inner compound) featured the usual array of symbology. These include a gedong paruman (central pavilion where the Gods are invited to sit), padmasana (stone seat for the Supreme Deity) in the far right corner and a gedong pesimpangan (shrine in honor of the village founder) to the right of the gedong paruman. After about 15 minutes I left, closing the gate behind me.
