Bali Arts Festival
Without a doubt my favourite festival is the Bali Arts Festival and it will be held from June 14 to July 12, and will feature a plethora of local and international performers. This is a wonderful spectacle and a great introduction to Balinese artistic traditions and culture for those who are first-timers to the island. Even for the regulars, it is a festival not to be missed. The events take place throughout each day for an entire month. There will be handicraft exhibitions, cultural performances, music, classical palace dances and also historical exhibitions. What I like about the festival is that it generates a great atmosphere and everyone is more than welcome to join in on the celebrations and fun. Last year I saw a westerner invited to do the Joged Bumbung dance and he did a pretty good job at it. As it always is, the Bali Arts Festival will be held in Denpasar at various locations with the main arena being the Werdhi Budaya Art Centre on Jl. Nusa Indah. Another location will be at the Bajra Sandi Monument in Renon and the Indonesia Institute of Arts. According to reports, because it is the 30th Arts Festival there will be more huge parades and more dance dramas. So, get your dancing shoes on and join in the celebrations!
