Saturday night in Seminyak Bali
Sitting here in an internet cafe in Seminyak, I am warming up to saturday night. Ika is in Java with her family for Ramadan and I have plenty of space to do whatever I want. Last night I met a very nice fellow, a Chinese New Yorker, who now works in Jakarta. We had a couple of beers in Santa Fe. He wanted to hit the town, but I was already toast.
Earlier in the night I attended an awards ceremony, for professional Balinese surfers, in a Kuta hotel. Bintang was free on tap, a great incentive for me! As I entered, I was asked to fill in a raffle slip, stating the name of my favourite Indonesian surfer. I wrote ‘J-E-V-O-N’. The staff asked who he was, so told them he’s my son, and will be Indonesia’s best surfer in 20 years.
This afternoon I trotted over to the expanding Ocha’s, corner of Jl. Seminyak and Gang Palawa (across from Jl. Dhyana Pura). The guy must be making bank, because they’ve just knocked down a wall and increased the seating area. Halfway through the nasi campur, my flamboyantly gay friend, Dallas Finn (Bali Peace Park) saw me and came in. Dallas told me the latest gossip, about his plans to turn the Sari club site, into a permanent memorial. These type of things often get catty, with various interest groups / individuals trying to out manouever each other. I asked Dallas if he’s been hitting the town. He said he hasn’t and made the comment ’tis the season to be bombed’. He right, so when I go to an internet cafe, I sit at the rear.
I’ve still got to work up the energy to stay out late, and snap a photo of ‘tongue woman’, the sexy dancer at Galaxy, who is very expressive. Galaxy is located on Jl. Dhyana Pura in Seminyak. The staff and owner Jeff are cool, the beer is cold and on tuesdays and thursdays at 11pm the show begins. Best to get there earlier and get a good seat. Galaxy is a great place to relax, enjoy a few drinks, before hitting the rest of the action.
