March 28th 2003 in Bali
Three years ago today I was in Lovina on the north coast of Bali. My friends Mick. Tina and Ron accompanied me on a bike ride in the mountians and we spent the night in the Nugraha hotel along the main road. Riding back along through the center of Bali I was initially downhearted, Tina and on were heading East for some more adventures and Mick jumped on his pocket rocket and sped back to Kuta (in 90 minutes!).
Riding to Singaraja and doing slow curving turns my sudden solitude felt weird. Then I thought to myself ‘hey what do I have to feel sorry about, I’m riding through the mountains of Bali!’. It was a pleasant ride and we met up again down south at a later date.
One funny thing I remember was Mick and I going across the road from the hotel we were staying and getting a drink in a ‘cafe’, meaning a locals drinking hole. This place was basically a barn with a few tables and Indonesian pop videos. They only served large Bintang, no spirits, no Coke, no water. The plastic table cloth had about 500 cigarette burns and all in all it was the nastiest place I’ve ever sat for a beer. Funny looking back.
