Hole in my roof in Seminyak Bali

Waking to a sunny day here in Semiyak Bali, the actual thing that woke me, was an insistant scratching that was coming from the roof. Scratch, tear, rip, went the bamboo material, and I wondered who or what might fall through.

Turns out it was a rat on the roof. The thing wandered all over, trying to tear holes any place it could, creating a nice dusty mess on the floor, for my newly burned feet to walk over. My roof isn’t bamboo, alang alang, but a wood frame supporting tiles. Here in Bali, owners of fully natural roofs have to spray periodically for pests, including rats, insects, gecko’s, birds etc. who will systematically destroy your beautiful Balinese roof.

How much damage this little critter did today, I won’t know until the rainy season starts.
