Getting used to the neighborhood in Seminyak Bali
Seminyak has been my home for 3 years now and I am still in my second house off of Jl. Dhyana Pura. Ika and Jevon have come along in the last year and a half and we have got very familiar with things around here. Recently Ika suggested moving to a house on Jl. Raya Kerobokan, about 5 minutes away. Her reasons were saving money. For me moving is a headache, something I’m not going to do unless I’ve got a good reason to. Our place works for right now, its not the Ritz, but its okay.
When I moved in at the start of 2004, I liked the pembantu’s (cleaners) and the other Balinese locals. Since that time some of the pembantu’s have moved on (Wayan included), but Jevon has come along and all the locals know him. The Balinese kids also know who Jevon is. Moving away would mean we probably wouldn’t see these folks anymore which would be a shame.
Today I gave our pembantu Ana, a payrise. She was happy about it and when I returned from my ride in the mountains, her young daughter was over the house. We’ll see what happens in 2006, but for now its good to be around familiar people.
