Expensive pre-school in Bali
Schools are a subject most of us have forgotten about. That is until we have kids, then school are all of a sudden in the picture again. This morning Ika’s friend Ayu, from Kalimantan came over. Ayu has 2 young daughters, her husband being from Spain.
Ayu’s daughters are 6 years old and she, said looking for a good pre-school was hard. Ayu checked out 15 schools to find a good one and one that was affordable. She chose one that caters to mixed kids (parents Indo / bule), and said she pays 34m rp a year to cover both of them. That’s a chunk of change alright.
Schools that cater to western / campur kids, know they cn charge a pretty penny. Most western parents do not like the standard of Indonesian locals chools and will pay the cash if they have it. Ayu said in hindsight, its probably better to just let the kid play at home with other kids. After all, even though the pre-school has books, forms and a curiculum, the kids still wet themsleves in the middle of the floor.
One advantage for Jevon playing with the local kids, is that he’ll learn Balinese, to add to the Javanese / Indonesian, his mother teaches him.
