Cody & Jeff: Bali Expats no more

Sunday night I got an sms from good old Cody, from Oklahoma. He and his friend Jeff were 15 minutes away from leaving Bali for good.

For those who can’t remember, Cody came out to Bali in September 2005, and met me. He does an online business that appraises URL’s (domain names), and can work anywhere there is internet access. Cody was soon joined by his partner Jeff, who had only ever been to Canada. The day after Jeff arrived, Bali Bomb II happened and folks back in Oklahoma were all “Oh my golly gosh, what’s gonna happen to my little boy!!!”

Cody told me that in the past year he has lived in Argentina and visited Thailand and Cambodia. Cody and Jeff first got a place out in Canggu, but always insisted their first love was PlayStation, rather than surfing. Canggu proved to be limited as far as nightlife, eating and shopping (what shopping!), so the guys rode around with me for an afternoon in Seminyak and Umalas, before finding a new place down one of the small lanes, behind Global Xtreme in Kerobokan. “If it ain’t got a TV we ain’t moving in.” I recall Cody saying in one place we looked at.

Cody & Jeff are now off on another adventure, doing their business no doubt in completely new surroundings. I wish them well.
