Balinese wedding in Tabanan Bali-part I

Wayan from Cafe Seminyak, invited me to her wedding in Tabanan. This morning I got the pembantu from next door, Ketut, to come over and properly tie my sarong. I know an approximation of how its supposed to go, but when I do it, the result usually is a lopsided mess.

The way its supposed to turn out, is with the split at the front, folded back and forth a couple of times to create a pointer going straight down. At the waist we tied a sash, and folded the sarong over, making a kind of belt. Sarongs look cool, especially on Balinese people. I always find them cumbersome, as they limit the distance I can step. Going upstairs is difficult and riding a motorbike definitly isn’t easy.

Heading out of the house I was equipped with sarong, jacket, cheap helmet with baseball cap, sarong around my neck and gloves. Basically a complete shambles on wheels. Wayan’s wedding was being held in her parent’s house, as is traditional in Bali. My invitation had a map on the back, with dirrections to the small desa of Nyitdah, in Kediri, Tabanan. Actually I have ridden through this area before, but not directly through Nyitdah. The journey took around 35 minutes, partly because they are resurfacing the Canggu road (dust bowl) and partly because I had to stop and ask directions. Finding the families house, I parkled and went inside.
