Art show at Jenggala: Jimbaran Bali
Friday night my friend Ebong invited me to join him at an art show. The location was Jenggala, on Jl. Uluwatu II, in Jimbaran, the artist Made Wianta. Ebong has a house very close to the beach in Jimbaran and as well as his American and Russian Jeeps, he has a couple of sail boats parked outside his house. It took us about 5 minutes to get to Jenggala and we arrived at 8pm. Jenggala is a bit of a fancy place, and the reception staff eagerly welcomed us. When we got there food and drinks were alrady in full lfow, with waitresses strolling around with trays of wine and beer.
I noticed there was a heavy presence of ‘old wood expats’. You know, the ones who come out only on special occassions and who end up in the Garuda inflight magazine. We were given a 2-page list of all Made Wianta’s work that were on display. Summing up his work I’d say he is an abstract artist who uses a variety of mediums. Ebong and I helped ourselves to the wine and I tried extra hard not to knock over any of the $1,000 ceramic pieces that were situated precariously on stone blocks. Among the mediums listed on the sheet were ink acrylic on paper, acrylic on paper, ceramic and glass.
