Afternoon shower in Seminyak Bali

rainSitting at Ocha’s warung, on Jl. Seminyak, eating nasi campur this afternoon, I chatted with a world traveller about India and Nepal. Having hiked the Annapurna Circuit in 1995, I remembered some of the places on the trek. Towards the end of our conversation, I could feel the humidity rising and looking outside saw the wind pick up. its going to rain! Hurrying the first few drops of rain bounced off of my Aussie hat, quickly turning into a downpour. Not expecting the rain to last for long, but immediately feeling the calming effects, I got the kettle on and made a Tequila coffee, just the thing to get the creative juices flowing. Only wish I had some ginger handy, as ginger coffee (black coffee, a bit of sugar and ginger), is a great ‘pick me up’, I find.

Latest news at my house is a new neighbor moved in. Haven’t me her yet, but I know she is from the UK. There’s an old saying ‘the squeeky wheel gets the grease’. It means the one who speaks up first, gets the attention. On Sunday night I cranked up ther volume on the Italian soccer game (we get it live), and the last 2 nights they have been showing old James Bond films, (plenty of 70’s style soundtrack and shooting). Now she knows I like to make noise, so no worries. Actually I’m quiet, but I don’t want ‘Jackie come lately’ telling me to ‘pipe down’. Who knows, maybe she’s cool.

While typing, I just saw a 2ft long lizard walk across my garden. It paused for a moment, then dissappeared down a hole, next to the large papaya tree that fell over last week. So far the lizard hasn’t bothered me, so he can stay in his hole. Just one of the aspects of living in Bali.
