UN Framework Convention on Climate Change facilities
Bali is due to be in the spotlight when the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) kicks off on December 3rd. President SBY has visited Bali to make sure all is going well with the preparations, so important is this event. Here’s a look at the major venues.
• Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK)
This impressive venue carved out of a limestone quarry on the Bukit peninsula can hold thousands of people. There are 10,000 expected delegates, so GWK should be the ideal location. The only dark cloud on the horizon is the weather. Wet season downpours mean outside events run the risk of being washed out.
• Bali International Convention Center
The BICC is a great place for conventions, with the largest ballroom in Bali. Bali International Convention Center is the largest and most technologically advanced resource on the island for meetings and events.
• Plenary Hall / Nusa Indah Hall
BICC’s main hall seats 2500 participants theater style, or 1200 for a banquet in a 2394 square meter space, 2 balconies, a built-in 17 x 3 meter stage with additional portable staging available, built-in 5 x 8 meter form screen as well as built-in PA system with 200 watt speakers. Ceiling height 10.5 meters.
• Auditorium
Tiered seating for 506 participants, built-in 12.6 x 6.3 meter stage, built-in 4.7 x 10 meter screen, sound system for speakers up to 3000 watts. Ceiling height – 7.2 meters.
• Exhibition
The Center boasts a total of almost 5,000 square meters of exhibition space with excellent vehicle and personnel access. There are two interior areas of 1,350 square meters each and 2,000 square meters of outdoor exhibition space.
• Meeting Room
Eight additional function rooms, four of which divide, provide meeting space totaling 3,490 square meters. Meeting Rooms can accommodate 10 – 1000 participants.
• The Westin Resort Nusa Dua
The Westin Resort Nusa Dua (formerly known as Sheraton Nusa Indah Resort) enjoys a prime beach-front location set within an exclusive enclave on Bali’s southern peninsular. The Bali International Convention Center is also located adjacent to the resort, the island’s most comprehensive facility with flexible meeting and exhibition space. Established amidst 24-hectares of flourishing landscaped gardens, the resort combines modern luxury with touches of Balinese charm. Designed as a family-friendly environment that boasts superb amenities, the resort is the ideal base for travellers who appreciate the finer pleasures in life. The Ngurah Rai International Airport is just 10 kilometers away.
The Westin will be the main hotel for the conference, with its own ballrooms and meeting space. With so many delegates participating, plus the December tourist build up, Nusa Dua, Sanur, Kuta and Seminyak hotels promise to be fully booked between December 3rd and December 14th.
