Traditional snacks in Seminyak Bali

This afternoon while walking on Jl. Seminyak, I stopped to observe a small group of locals, descending on a snack vendor. These charachters are found all over Bali, carting a round tub of gear with them, and supplying shop workers with little snacks. This crowd were digging through bags of cut papaya and little bags of anchovie with peanuts.

Salak (snake fruit) was also one of the items. There is no limit to the creativity with which things are mixed and I could not identify everything on sale. The seller told me everything was 500rp. Back home I asked Ika and her friend Komang, what was the name for this type of food, and they said was just normal snack food.

If you want to be the ‘king of the shop workers’ just buy them a selection of this stuff. I did it once at Cafe Seminyak and they thought it was Christmas (Galungan).

On a side note, this afternoon I got an SMS from Ika, that said a giant, 5kg lizard had crawled into our house. Apparently those kinds of lizards can’t hear, but are good for satay!
