Tourists in Nusa Dua Bali
The evening was still young and I felt like going for a ride. Jumping on the Bypass at the McDonalds, I shot up to Nusa Dua. Turning right at the end of the road, outside of the Main Gate and hooking a quick right up the hill, I ended up at the little knot of tourist restaurants. It was funny because this part of Bali has the same kind of feel as Sanur. There’s the beach in the daytime, decent hotels and nothing to do in the evenings, apart from eat and listen to the Indo band knock out Abba tunes on their keyboard.
I ordered a beer and could see the other guests in the packed place were mostly families and older couples from Europe. After 5 minutes the skies burst and everyone scattered with drinks in hand. It was kind of fun, diners inside were suddenly joined by 30 other people, myself standing close to the keyboard player and chatting to a German couple from Frankfurt. When I say chatting, I mean I used the 10 German words I know, with plenty of gesturing, before getting the 20 year old Balinese waitress to translate for us. Gunter and his wife had been coming to Bali for 14 years, but still go for the package deal experince. I tried to tell them that East Bali was more laid back and a better place to hang out.
