The Vitazone Bali TV Race: Bali
Fancy a ten kilometre run whilst you are in Bali on holidays?. I didn't think so!. But that is the distance on the Vitazone Bali TV run according to a small article in the Bali Discovery.
As a youngster I used to do a lot of running and mostly along beaches but never attempted a long haul trek like this one. If it had been a leisurely stroll competition then I would have most definitely been in it. Alas, I am preoccupied and will only bear witness to these poor sods perspiring and panting as they run from the Gusti Ngurah Rai Monument all the way to the Hotel Peninsula in Nusa Dua.
Mind you, I could be sorely tempted to run if there was Arak in those little cups they hold out to the runners!. I wouldn't finish the race but what a time would be had. Here are the details from the Bali Discovery including how to register:
More than 1,500 runners have already registered to participate in the 10 Kilometer Vitazone Bali TV 10-K set to be held on Sunday July 16 2003.
More than Rp. 500 millions in merchandise including vehicles and television sets will be awarded across 10 separate divisions of male and female runners. The race is open to the public and will be run along a route starting from the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Monument - near Bali's airport and ending at the Hotel Peninsula in Nusa Dua.
Although promoted as a "fun run" a number of leading national athletes are nevertheless expected to participate in the race.
