Suharto Celebrates 85th Birthday: Jakarta, Indonesia
The old fella and hardliner of Indonesia, Mantan Suharto has made it to 85 years of age and in doing so avoided attempted prosecutions by Indonesian authorities.
According to a report in the ABC News Australia eighty-five horses and carts clicked along the streets of the Indonesian capital today as well wishers sent bouquets to the home of former dictator Suharto to celebrate his birthday.
Suharto had received birthday kisses from his children and grandchildren. However, absent as he was during Suharto’s last birthday bash was his son Tommy who is doing a comfy stretch in the poky for ordering the murder of a judge and corruption.
It seems however that there are certain factions in Indonesian society who still look upon Suharto favourably. A Jakarta based youth group called Radical and Anti-Communist Islam organised the parade of 85 horse carts around the capitals busy Hotel Indonesia roundabout. In fact they all consider him an honourable leader. Somebody forgot to tell them about the old fella being deposed in 1988!.
Suharto was supposed to stand trial for misusing more than $A670 million from seven charitable foundations he established during his rule but last month the Attorney-General's office dropped the charges.
