SBY talks democracy in Myanmar (Burma)
Indonesian President SBY is in Myanmar (that’s Burma, for you old hippies who haven’t looked at an atlas for 20 years), talking with strongman Gen Than Shwe. The way the world turns you never know what you are going to end up doing. Here’s a general from the Suharto regime, talking about democracy to foriegn dictators.
Indonesia and Myanmar are members of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) and SBY is trying his best to be a leader for reform. Having him talk to some of the more radical countries is better than having Condoleeeza Rice telling them the way things are.
SBY did not ask to see imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize winner (what does that say about a country when you jail a Nobel Peace Prize winner?) Aung San Suu Kyi, feeling that it wasn’t proper.
