SBY Fronted at Jamboree: Java, Indonesia

You have to give full marks to the dude that had the ingenuity to front the top man of the country and put him on the spot so to speak. It happened at the opening of the Boy Scout Jamboree in Java.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was surprised by a desperate boy scout who slipped through the presidential security detail and asked for money to pay his tuition fees. The scout, 17 year old Dhimas Gumilar Taufik said financial difficulties drove him to challenge the tight security and give Yuhoyono a begging letter.

The President was opening this year's National Scout Jamboree on Sunday and was enjoying a performance at the Mashudi Camp Ground when Dhimas launched his plan. One of teenage organizers of the jamboree, Dhimas bounded out of the audience from Yudhoyono's left and spooked the presidential guards.

He spoke briefly to the President before the guards grabbed him and took him away. The 12th grader at Sandi Putra High School claimed the President had promised to pay for his Rp 90,000 a month tuition.

Dhimas said he had planned the stunt after being asked to join the jamboree as an organizer. The scout said he had earlier asked for assistance from the National Jamboree organizing committee and from the Bandung municipality but neither groups had responded.

Dhimas was held by the presidential guard until after the President's entourage left the site.
