Indonesian furniture set to take of in India
Indonesian made furniture is set to take India by storm. The reasons for this are the selection of materials used from teak, bamboo, rattan and others. The second reason is Indonesia has a wealth of skilled carpenters and craftsmen (and women).
On a basic level, you can find some pretty handy people in Indonesia. I remember watching a team of men and women, arrive outside my house once with a stack of wood. They sanded it, cut it, varnished it and made a bed and other furniture, right there in the parking lot.
Not only can Indonesian knock out basic furniture, they can carve and design. Indian has the Hindu connection and we could see more Indonesian goods flowing there in the future.
If you are in Bali shopping for furniture, there is a ton of it. Mas, close to Ubud has a selection, as does the area in Kerobokan on the way to and around the jail. You can also visit furniture places on Jl. Oberoi, Dhyana Pura, Double Six and Jl. Seminyak.
