Indonesia going all out for foreign investment
Indonesia is going all out for foreign investment, and its not only President SBY who is jetting around the world, trying to flog nasi goreng. Indonesia’s Trade Minister, Australian bred Dr. Mari Pangestu, was in Canberra today talking up the benefits of dealing with Indonesia. One of her key points, was to mention that the government was serious about tacking corruption, with 80 former ministers on corruption charges (I like the way she swung that).
Indonesia needs foreign cash, and waiting for a bunch of slow coaches like ASEAN (Association of SE Asian Nations) to get themselves together, isn’t going to get Mari that new Beemer. No, she wants a ‘special friends’ agreement between Indo and Oz.
Australia’s inclusion of Indonesia, in its list of places to be avoided, along with Syria, Israel and Pakistan, isn’t exactly an endorsement or trust. This is also one topic Dr. Pangestu brought onto the table.
