Even in Bali the grass is always greener

People dream of coming to tropical Bali. Equatorial sun, hot steamy nights, masses of people in the local streets and markets, all the creature comforts you could ask for. Some people find that when they get to Bali, these things are not actually what they want, and home is actually what they want.

One recent Bali visitor, Marcus from New Zealand, was longing for the tropics…until he arrived. Those empty beaches he had promised himself, were not to be found, at least in Kuta. Instead, he reports, touts and massage women would not leave him alone. Marcus did enjoy the local prices though, even with the $NZ.

Here are some ways Marcus could of had a better time:

•Head to Bedugal, Kintamani, Batukaru, Munduk, where the temperatures are cooler.
•Get out of the Kuta area, as it is the most crowded tourist area in Bali.
•Figure out what kind of ‘Bali experience’ he wants, and go after it (exploring the island, quiet village scene, art course, languange course, diving in Amed etc)
•Try not to focus on the heat, dust, traffic. Think about what inspired him to come to Bali, and focus on that.
•Be adventurous. Try new things, places, foods, sports, pastimes.
