‘Don’t kill Bali Nine’ say Australian legal expert
Australian legal expert Philip Alston has argued that the Bali Nine drug smuggling gang should not be executed. Mr. Alston, an international law expert, testifying in Jakarta at the Constitutional Court, said the Bali Nine members were guilty of a serious crime, but did not literally kill anybody.
Indonesia does permit the death penalty, which is enforced by a firing squad. Recent reports say the laws might change to introduce death by lethal injection, as it is ‘more humane’. Personally I’d rather go for a walk in the woods and rifle, than never seeing daylight and being put to sleep.
The Australian goes into this in more detail. Most likely thing to happen is 7 of the Bali Nine get their sentences commuted and served in Australia, with the other 2 serving life in Bali.
