Countries rally to help with Java earthquake

Foreign countries have rallied to help out in the Java earthquake. Yesterday a team of medics from China arrived and the task now is to provide medical care, food and water to the injured.

The death toll keeps rising and is now over 5,000. Judging from the photos I have seen, there are many injured. Add to that a breakdown in services, and the fact the 200,000 people are homeless, you have a big problem.

So far the UK has promised $7.4m, $5 million plus food, medical aid and tents from Saudi Arabia, $4 million each from Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, $3.8 million from the European Union, $2.5 million from the United States, $2 million from China.

President SBY called for more organization in the disaster relief effort. Here in Bali I have not heard of anyone who has lost relatives.
