Building in Seminyak Bali

constructionTyping in my bedroom for the last few monthes, has been accompanied by the constant banging and shouting, of the workers next door. The cement monstrosity they are constructing, is giving signs it has reached its zenith. I was getting worried, after layer upon layer of ugly grey bricks went up, the workers now able to look down on me in me bedroom. The blue metal frame will form the support for the roof, and hopefully the whole thing will get some other color than grey.

While watching these guys build, 2 thoughts occured to me were, I’d hate to be here during an earthquake and these guys don’t use any safety equipment. Can’t really blame the owner, the location is perfect for partiers / shoppers, right next to Jl. Seminyak and Jl. Dhyana Pura. Rents are riding and my annual contract is almost up. I’m planning to take my house for another year, and then see what happens.

Today I watched workers busy welding the roof together, they saw me and joked about getting their photo taken. From wahy I hear from expats living in Bali, you can get a place built for cheap, but it takes longer than you’d imagine, which in turn leads to extra costs. Having a place built in the wet season is not a good idea either, as workers will stop working when it rains and still expect to get paid.
