Be careful swimming in Bali
The lure of warm ocean water against a blue sky with waves pounding in the distance is hard to resist. This is especially true for holiday makers who may not be aware of the dangers of ocean currents.
Last Friday 2 Europeans drowned on Seminyak beach after playing rugby with their friends. One will often see pale-skinned, out of shape tourists heading off into the surf, armed with a body board and no leash, or just going out for a swim. This can be okay at certain times but in the wrong place you will quickly find yourself in trouble. If lines of breaking waves are coming in behind each other, that’s a big clue that you don’t want to swim there. Also a red flag means stay away (unless you are surfing). Here’s more from Reuters.
