Bali Nine & Schapelle Corby: What will the future bring?
Members of the Bali Nine heroin smuggling gang, who are curently on death row in Bali, are hoping for the best when a judicial review of their case happens in the next 2-3 weeks. The 6, Matthew Norman, Si Yi Chen, Tan Duc Thanh Nguyen, Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, plus Scott Rush, will file 2 separate constitutional challenges to their death sentence. As yet, the Australian and Indonesian governments have not discussed the matter, although its going to be a touchy issue, if all 6 are executed.
To add to this, members of the Bali bomb 1 group, including JI leader, Basher, were released from jail in late 2006. That certainly rubs salt into the wounds. Let’s remember this is Indonesia and anything can happen, maybe the sentences will be changed.
Another expat currently residing in Kerobokan jail, is lovely Schapelle Corby. According to newspaper accounts, she had a rotten Christmas behind bars and might go for a prisoner exchange this year, if it was offered. There is a chance she will be moved to a jail in Malang Java before that time, which will make her all the more likely to see repatriation, as the way to go.
