Bali Nine kingpsins challenging death sentence in Bali
Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, the 2 kingpins of the drug smuggling gang, the Bali Nine, are appealing their death sentence. The 2 have had 2 appeals turned down already, this latest being a ‘constitutional challenge’. Lawyer, Todung Mulya Lubis, who is representing the 2, said the death sentence has no place in Indonesia, since the Indonesian constitution declares, each is entitled to the right to life.
That all sounds good, but look at the US. Exactly the same, with the right to life, being ‘bullet point’ #1. Plenty of people executed there too, no worries. Should this challenge result in a positive outcome, the 2 Aussies will still have pursued the Indonesian courts the punishment is too harsh. Good luck to both of them, but I think they have very little chance of getting anywhere.
Four other members of the Bali Nine, also facing ‘bullets on the beach’, are filing their own challenge.
