Bali courts in action today
Bali’s High Court saw the appeal of convicted heroin traffickers, Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan rejected. The 2 Sydney men were the ring leader of the drug smuggling gang, and were sentenced to death by Denpasar District Court in February. Their chances now lay with an appeal to Indonesia’s Supreme Court in Jakarta. Failing that an appeal directly to President SBY is the only chance.
Of course, if the Australian government can get away from that Papuan business, and start getting, close and cuddly with Indonesia, some kind of prisoner transfer deal might happen. I tell you, living here in Seminyak, every time I pass close to the jail, I thank my lucky stars for all that I have. These 2 young guy’s hopes and plans are over.
On a brighter note, the Denpasar District Court has set May 9th as the trial date of 4 individuals accused of aiding and abetting in Bali Bomb II 2005. The 4 people are Muhamad Cholili, 28, Abdul Aziz, 30, Dwi Widiyarto, alias Wiwid, 34, and Anif Solchanudin, 24. The bombers were all killed in the event.
