Bali Bombers Seek Judicial Review

The on again off again scenario of the Bali Bombers execution has become somewhat tiring. It now appears the three Bali bombers on death row in Indonesia will be executed at their island jail instead of Bali.

Amid local protests the three Bali bombers were moved to the nearby island jail of Nusakambangan for security reasons last October. Correspondent Geoff Thompson in Jakarta said the three men and their families have waived their right to seek presidential pardons but may still seek a judicial review based on new evidence, if any arises.

Indonesian police say that a firing squad has already been prepared.

Attorney General Abdul Rahman Saleh said the trio of Bali bombers in death row are very likely to face execution on the Nusa Kambangan prison island and not in Bali as stated earlier. The minister of justice and human rights affairs has issued the permit. The execution will definitely not take place in Bali.

The executions by firing squad have been delayed pending their last appeal.

Their detention caused the transfer to Nusa Kambangan following protest by Bali residents last year demanding their execution only days after triple suicide bombings rocked the island and killed 23 people. The execution will be carried out on Nusa Kambangan just to make things simpler because they are now being detained on the island off Central Java province.

Apparently if the bombers refuse to lodge appeal then the execution process will continue. About time I say. I still maintain the best way to save money on bullets is to hand them over to the Balinese people and let local justice prevail.
