Australian attorney general not commenting on Bali Nine sentences
Australian Attorney General Philip Ruddock does not want to comment on the latest developments in the case of the Bali Nine.
Mr Ruddock pointed out that Indonesia has its own laws, and while they may seem harsh, they are entitled to fulfill the legal requirements, before Australia seeks an alternative solution.
The recent sentence reductions for Renae Lawrence, Michael Czugaj, Tan Duc Thanh Nguyen, Si Yi Chen and Matthew Norman, from life to 20 years, has given them a light at the end of the tunnel. Scott Rush and Martin Stephens did not appeal, but may now do so. Kingpins Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran did not get a reduction to their death sentences.
Mr Ruddock said any future prisoner transfer would depend on the speed of negotiations between Australia and Indonesia.
