Anderson Tackles KFC in Indonesia

That renowned lady of merriment and endowment, Pamela Anderson, as a staunch animal lover has decided to take on KFC in a big way but, in Indonesia.

Apparently she is not happy with the situation regarding the chooks dilemma before they are 'cooked'. Here is the article from the Jakarta Post:

Anderson: KFC must halt ‘chicken abuse’

JAKARTA: In a follow-up to a protest against KFC earlier this month, actress Pamela Anderson has urged fast-food chain KFC Indonesia to bring a halt to what happens to chickens before they end up in KFC buckets.

In a letter from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to president of the fast-food chain’s Indonesia operations Dick Gelael, Asia-Pacific PETA member Anderson is demanding that KFC eliminate what PETA refers to as its suppliers worst abuses of chickens.

Allegations include cutting off the sensitive beaks of baby birds with a hot blade without using any painkillers and breaking the birds wings and legs as they are crudely gathered for slaughter.

In the letter Anderson writes "Investigations by my friends at PETA have found that chickens that are raised for KFC are bred and drugged to grow so large so quickly that many become crippled under their own weight. … At the slaughterhouse millions are dunked into scalding-hot water while they are still conscious."

KFC Indonesia spokesman Adi S. Tjahjadi responded to the allegations.

"We have a halal certificate that shows we provide food in accordance with Islamic regulations, which are strict. For a chicken to be halal it must be slaughtered in a specific way like cutting the right and left veins of the neck," he said.

"Our suppliers have also stated that they never use any kind of hormone to fatten the chickens" he added.
