Amrozi & Co. roll the dice one last time

Much like a soap opera that just won’t die, Bali bombers, Amrozi, Samudra and Muklas, are giving their shot at escaping the death penalty.

The 3 were expected to get a firing squad in August, but instead filed an appeal. I find Indonesian law a total mystery. You can conspire to commit mass murder, and a get off with 4 years in jail, but then get death for drug trafficking. Amrozi and Co. were convicted on a law retroactively, which, by most people’s standards is illegal. Nevertheless they wound up in jail and are now filing an appeal against that conviction. Surely they could of been convicted on about 20 other laws, including, murder, illegal use of explosives, etc. If that crime was commited in a western country, retroactive law or not, they’re guilty of enough other stuff, its game over.

If you want to kick start Bali’s tourism, hold the firing squad on Kuta Beach, and sell tickets $100 a pop. I reckon half of Australia would show up.
