American mining firm finds big ‘Solution’ in Indonesia

Here’s a bit of news that might cheer up the Bali Nine. Sometimes when you are in a corner and its seems there is no way out, just remember, in Indonesia there is always room for a ‘Solution’.

American mining company, Newmont Mining Corp, is a huge polluter here in Indonesia. Like most of the other resource extraction companies, they don’t give a rats ass about the environment or the local people. Just ruin the country and suck as much money out of the ground as possible. Newmont Mining Corp is so successful at sucking money (gold & copper) out of the ground, that people in high places want a slice of the pie. Newmont Mining Corp recently got slapped with a law suit for toxic pollution by the Indonesian government.

Neither side wants the mining to stop, that would be the end to easy money, so a Solution of $30m has been agreed. Over the next several years, Newmont Mining Corp will hand over the cash into a ‘special foundation’. There will be 6 ‘respected scientists in their fields’ who will be doing the monitoring from now on, 3 appointed by Newmont Mining Corp, and 3 by the government. Very tidy!
