19 Airports Rated as Good: Indonesia

Just how do you rate an airport?. The tarmac, safety nets, good emergency services or just plain old facilities for travellers. The Department of Transportation has issued certification for 35 airports and it does not look good.

The result is that 19 are rated as good whereas the remainder of them are average. Among all of the certified airports, 23 are organized by PT Angkasa Pura; 11 are managed by the central government; and one airport is rated as special according to Tempo magazine.

According to Moh. Iksan Tatang the Director General of Air Transportation airports that meet the standards of international air transport with an A rating are Soekarno-Hatta, Cengkareng Djuanda, Surabaya and Ngurah Rai, Bali.
"This year there will be 10 more airports that are evaluated" said Tatang yesterday.

He explained that the chief examination will be performed on both the airport infrastructure and its personnel that will support the safety and security of aviation. The ability of the airports to be used by large-sized aircraft will also be considered. "We will also put navigation service under a spotlight"

In addition, how the airports serve the consumer as well as national and foreign airways will be the measurement. Up until recently there were 188 airports in Indonesia. 49 of them are the primary ones since large-sized aircraft such as Boeing 737 or MD 82 may land on them.
